Summer 2020 has been one of new challenges and unprecedented times, but it’s also been a summer of innovative creativity. We’ve loved watching the Elenco and Snap Circuits community use quarantine and the time indoors to channel their inner-engineer and think outside of the box with their creations.  To further inspire your ingenuity, we want to share some of our favorite creative Snap Circuits projects we’ve been tagged in over the past few months, starting with this DIY magnet project by a fan named Vik. Through a STEM summer camp that used Snap Circuits, Vik’s daughter was given “homework” to create an art project using one of our kits and she decided on magnets! Using our SC100 kit, they outfitted the fan with thick pieces

Back to school time is always a big transition, not only for children but for parents. While children are filled with excitement and first-day jitters, parents are filled with thoughts of “Am I prepared enough?” To help eliminate these thoughts, and help you and your child prepare for the new school year, all you need is a little organization and forethought. Here are some great back to school tips to kick-start the new year and get you prepared for a fresh start: Gradually set earlier bedtimes and wake the kids up early as well. Bump bedtimes times up 10 or 15 minutes every few days until you’re at an appropriate bedtime for a school night and wake up time in the mornings. Otherwise, you might

School may be out for the summer (or winding down), but that doesn’t mean learning has to end! In fact, it is vital that it doesn’t. When students let their brains take a break over the summer, they can lose the equivalent of two months of their grade-level math and reading skills. To combat summer learning loss and keep those STEM skills fresh over the summer, Elenco has put together a list of super simple (and FUN!) STEM activities you can do with your children over summer break. Learn and Create with Snap Circuits! No surprise here– our favorite STEM summer activity is anything to do with Snap Circuits! The learning fun never ends and Snap Circuits have been used worldwide in STEM Summer camps. You can

Why girls need STEM and why STEM needs girls

A career in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) offers so much for our girls; opportunity, the chance to shape our world and job stability in an increasingly tech-focused marketplace. There’s a massive gender imbalance that persists in STEM-related fields. While determining exact cross-industry percentages is tricky, the number of women in these jobs generally hovers between 10 and 30 percent, even though having women involved offers so much to the world. If half of the population isn’t contributing to the best ideas, they’re not, in fact, the best ideas. Without female inventors, we wouldn’t have windshield wipers, coffee filters and disposable diapers. Recent innovations that have come from girls and women include a smartphone attachment that lets parents diagnose ear infections, and a water-purification

Is your toddler sleeping with his iPad? Is your grade-schooler always playing with your phone? Is your middle-schooler staying inside to play Minecraft every day? Was your high school son up till 3am last night playing his video games? With no real limits and left to manage technology on their own, most children will overuse it. As our culture saturates our children with media, our job as parents is to skillfully guide them through the deluge of distractions. While we may try to convince ourselves that their media is educational, social, and healthy, deep down parents know instinctively that our children are getting too much screen time. It is never too late to get more facts about the ever-changing world of childhood screens and reset
